Extra-Curricular Activities

WCGS offers a good range of after-school clubs and activities.

Wheaton Christian Grammar School offers after-school activities in addition to our athletic teams and music groups.

Activities

Battle of the Books

Grades 4-5, Year-round

Practice days are during lunch and after school. Practices begin the last week of September and run through the beginning of March. Meets start in January (7 total) at the Wheaton Public Library. Students will need to read as many of the 45 books as possible and at least half before they compete in a meet.

Chess Club

Grades K-1, Mondays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Grades 2-8, Thursdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The WCGS Chess Team is open to all interested players in grades K-8. 

There are 10 sessions in total. A $75 fee will be billed by the school after the first session.

LEGO Robotics Club

Grades 4-8,

This innovative club presents a hands-on, interactive opportunity that captivates student's interest in engineering and technology as they master the dynamics of teamwork and problem-solving. Students will work on their creativity, curiosity, communication, and collaboration skills as they build and test a robot. Please contact the teacher, Mrs. Jacqueline Lauriat at  to sign your child up for this club.

LEGO Robotics Team

Grades 5-8, Fall 2019

The WCGS First Lego League Robotics Team consists of 10 students who research a real-world engineering challenge, develop a solution, and compete with LEGO-based robots of their own design. Interested students apply in the spring prior to the next school year. Please contact Mrs. Jacqueline Lauriat at if you have any questions.

Student Council

Grades 6-8, Mondays

Jr. High homerooms elect three representatives from their class (4 from 8th grade) in late August/early September. Elections for Officer positions are held within the actual council in early/mid-September. The Officer positions are President (8th grade student), Vice President (8th grade student), Secretary, and treasurer.

Some of the events Student Council are in charge of are the Faculty v. Student Soccer Game, the Dodgeball Tournament, Variety Show, Dress Down Days, and the Backyard BBQ.

Writing Club

Grade 2 Only, Spring 2020

This club gives second graders a chance to write in a relaxed atmosphere. Students work on skills taught in the classroom and have fun at the same time. Club members will receive a book composed of stories contributed by each child at the end of the session.

No fee.

Young Adult Battle of the Books

Practice days are over the summer and through September. Meets start in October at the Wheaton Public Library. Students will need to read as many of the 20 books as possible and at least 15 before they compete in a meet.


Additional co-curricular activities include athletic teams and musical groups. The Jr. High musical auditions take place in January, in preparation for performances in late April.
